I thought I was wasting time...

This week I found myself reading something I'd written on the back of the Den.

"If you keep experimenting you will get no actual painting finished."

It's been pinned there for months.

Which probably tells you something about the conversations I have with myself.

At the moment I'm working on Hymn For A Drowned Street.

Except... most days it doesn't really look like I'm working on the painting.

There's work spread across every available surface.

Tiny wooden houses.

Old model railway houses that used to belong to Chris.

Bits of collage.

The larger painting has another layer drying while I stand back wondering what it needs next.

Some days I'm testing colour.

Some days I'm trying to create more depth.

At the moment I'm on the fence about fences.

Somewhere along the way I realised it needed more water.

Less land.

I'm still not sure which houses to use.

And I'm still wondering whether the fences work as substitute lines.

A few months ago I looked at all this chaos and wrote,

"If you keep experimenting you will get no actual painting finished."

Now I think this is me getting on with the painting!

Carol
