What is an artist residency?

An Artist Residency is a temporary period of time that an artist has to work on a project or develop new ideas. They are used as a way for artists to explore their creativity outside of their usual environment.

How does it work?

Relocation is the superpower of the artist residency. Having the opportunity to work in a new environment, often surrounded by other creative individuals, releases the artist from their usual routines and processes which leads to new perspectives and therefore new creative work. What is the resiDENcy?

In its most simple form, you undertake your own artist residency by building a different environment within your home in which to create. Who can do it?

Absolutely anyone! It doesn’t matter if you are an artist, a writer, a poet, a potter, a musician…the idea is to build a space which, when you enter, you feel free to create just like you did when you were a kid.
