This piece is about the kind of light that stays with you.
Not the flash of it.
But the echo.
The way a sky can hold colour long after the sun has shifted.
The way warmth lingers in the body even when the day is done. I was thinking about how memory isn’t a single image.
It’s layered.
Fragmented.
Reassembled.
Shapes stack and lean into one another like moments trying to make sense of themselves.
Stripes of colour cut through blue space, like traces of something once bright.
Not quite landscape.
Not quite architecture.
More like the structure of remembering.
Light doesn’t disappear.
It settles.
It leaves behind warmth, colour, rhythm.
In that way, this painting isn’t about a summer day.
It’s about what remains.
The memory of light.

Created over 30 hours, this work builds depth and light through soft blues that cool the air, warm yellows that embrace the sun, and delicate lines that evoke the subtle movement of light dancing through the leaves. Each layer adds complexity, reflecting both the stillness of the moment and the pulse of life within it. Through this painting, I invite viewers to pause and recall those quiet, radiant moments, and the warmth they bring even when they’ve passed.

This painting has been created on a wooden cradle board. It is a mixed media piece comprising of Acrylic Paint, Graphite, Oil Pastel, Ink, Coloured Pencil and Collage (including a mix of vintage paper and paper hand made by the artist). The painting is 76cm by 76cm by 2.5cm, has been sealed with three layers of satin varnish to protect the work and comes ready to hang.

'The Memory Of Light' has over 30 layers of paint and collage contained within it. Building it up layer by layer creates depth, texture and history. The lumps and bumps on the surface make it almost tactile and the interplay of shape next to line, collage next to paint and colour next to monocrome creates interest and drama within the piece.creates interest and drama within the piece.
