The Memory of Light is an exploration of the quiet nostalgia that lingers long after the moment has passed—the warmth of the sun on your skin, the shimmer of light filtering through trees, and the simple pleasure of a perfect summer day. In this piece, I seek to capture the timeless feeling that a single moment can leave behind, a memory that stays with you and continues to resonate.

Created over 30 hours, this work builds depth and light through soft blues that cool the air, warm yellows that embrace the sun, and delicate lines that evoke the subtle movement of light dancing through the leaves. Each layer adds complexity, reflecting both the stillness of the moment and the pulse of life within it. Through this painting, I invite viewers to pause and recall those quiet, radiant moments, and the warmth they bring even when they’ve passed.

This painting has been created on a wooden cradle board. It is a mixed media piece comprising of Acrylic Paint, Graphite, Oil Pastel, Ink, Coloured Pencil and Collage (including a mix of vintage paper and paper hand made by the artist). The painting is 76cm by 76cm by 2.5cm, has been sealed with three layers of satin varnish to protect the work and comes ready to hang.

'The Memory Of Light' has over 30 layers of paint and collage contained within it. Building it up layer by layer creates depth, texture and history. The lumps and bumps on the surface make it almost tactile and the interplay of shape next to line, collage next to paint and colour next to monocrome creates interest and drama within the piece.creates interest and drama within the piece.
