Cosmology, the field that focuses on the origins and evolution of the universe, is confined to the ‘observable’ - those galaxies and stars whose light has had time to reach us. We have no way of knowing what lies beyond. More of the same, perhaps, or new strange realms.

This painting has been created on a framed wooden cradle board. It is a mixed media piece comprising of Acrylic Paint, Graphite, Oil Pastel, Ink, Coloured Pencil and Collage (including a mix of vintage paper and paper hand made by the artist). The painting is 42cm by 60cm, has been sealed with three layers of satin varnish to protect the work and comes ready to hang.

'The Universe Stretched and Untangled' has over 14 layers of paint and collage contained within it. Building it up layer by layer creates depth, texture and history. The lumps and bumps on the surface make it almost tactile and the interplay of shape next to line, collage next to paint and colour next to monocrome creates interest and drama within the piece.

This piece has been selected by The Society of Women Artists to be included in their 163rd Annual Exhibition at The Mall Galleries in London. The exhibition will be open to the public from the 25th to the 29th of June and you can purchase this piece in person at the gallery (The Mall, St. James's, London, SW1Y 5AS) or via their website once the exhibition goes live.
