Apparently I've been saying this for years...

Last week I mentioned that I'd apparently been saying the same thing for years and had only just noticed.
A few people replied asking what on earth I was talking about.
Fair question.
The sentence is this:
"I think we spend much of our early lives being told who we should be, and much of the rest remembering who we were before everyone else got involved."
I've said versions of that for decades.
To friends.
To myself.
Probably to complete strangers if they stood still long enough.
What I hadn't realised was that it was sitting underneath almost everything I make.
The slightly embarrassing part is that I thought I'd discovered something new.
Instead, I finally noticed something that had been there all along.
Which feels oddly fitting.
Because much of my work is about traces, memory, and the things that remain.
Apparently that includes my own ideas.
Who knew?
