Dr Morrow,

During ongoing survey work in Sector B3, a number of small surface formations have begun to emerge during the clearing process.

The first has now been stabilised.

The material shows early-stage structural behaviour, though the system remains incomplete. Layering is present, but not yet resolved. Certain areas appear to be holding form, while others have already begun to give way.

These do not read as finished surfaces.

They appear instead to represent a state of transition.

We are provisionally classifying this type of material as:

Transitional Surface Unit (TSU) Material in a state of partial formation. Structural behaviour present, but not yet stabilised.

Further units are visible beneath the surface, though recovery is ongoing.

This piece is part of a series of 15 × 15 works I’ve been developing in the studio.

They are where things begin to take shape.

Where layers form, shift, and sometimes fall apart before they find their way into the larger Rooted Age works. Ashwake holds a sense of time passing through a place.

Like standing in an old building and feeling how many lives have moved through it before you.

The walls seem to carry something. Not stories you can name, but a presence you can feel.

It’s that feeling of holding a place still, even as everything around it moves on.

A piece that feels like it holds time. _________________________________________________________________________ A small number of these units will be released from the archive as they are stabilised.

If this is one you feel drawn to, you can reply to this email and I’ll share the details.

Speak Soon,

Carol
