I didn't actually start with the idea of making something quite so, erm, big and solid. I'm not sure I had any kind of plan at all if I'm honest! I approached our local wine shop and asked them if they had anything lying around that I might be able to use to build a DEN, they said they would have a look at what they had and then they came back to me with three wooden pallets, a couple of wooden boxes and some fabric! (I have to admit, I did get quite excited when I saw it all!). I was then chatting to my lovely friends Sarah and Lee about the project and, when they heard my plans, they told me that they had just dismantled a large wardrobe and I could take whatever I wanted from the pile of stuff they had at the side of the house. So that's how I ended up with a small wooden shed in my studio! lol. (Which is actually no bad thing, I won an award earlier in the year which came with a cash prize and a solo show and I'm thinking I might re-create the DEN in the gallery and let people go inside it!). So a big THANK YOU to the lovely people at Magnum Wine Shop, Swindon. (If you are local please pop in and see them. They have a fabulous selection of wines and spirits, do fantastic wine tastings and are all round lovely people!). Another big THANK YOU to Sarah and Lee. And a very special THANK YOU to my, long suffering, lovely husband. Not only did he not bat an eyelid when I announced I wanted to build a DEN in my studio, he helped me plan what I was going to create out of my supplies (after listening to my ideas and saying 'No. That will collapse on your head in about three seconds flat!') AND he helped me build it! (I do call him lovely husband for a reason! lol).
