The evidence is mounting

The evidence is mounting The other week I told you about the shoes.

Which, for the record, are still utterly fabulous.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of it.

Once I'd noticed the pattern, I started seeing it everywhere.

And by everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE.

The moment I finally realised quite how ridiculous this had become was when I was standing in front of the Den looking at the evolution of The Rooted Age and found myself thinking:

"Oh, for the love of God..."

For those of you who are new here, the Den is exactly what it sounds like.

A giant den.

Built in the middle of my studio.

Out of donated wooden panels and wardrobe doors.

Everything else is now crammed around it and I can no longer find anything.

That's perfectly normal behaviour, right?

Then I looked at the photograph sitting on my desk.

It's a picture of me when I was three.

I'm covered in paint.

Not near paint.

Not holding paint.

Covered in it.

Apparently my mum left the room for a few minutes and I saw an opportunity.

The expression on my face suggests I considered this a tremendous success.

Which, to be fair, I probably did.

This is also the child who made friends with entire neighbourhoods, sang Beatles songs to elderly neighbours because she'd noticed they were lonely, and proudly announced, "I washed one of them," when my mum asked if I'd washed my hands before bed.

Then there are the shoes.

Then there is the Den.

Then there is The Rooted Age.

Which, in hindsight, involves an invented language, recovered fragments, a mysterious archivist and an AI merged with nature that gives the Earth a voice.

I really should have spotted this sooner.

At this point I am forced to conclude that I have spent the last year constructing an enormous wooden 3D clue in the middle of my studio and somehow failed to notice.

Which is astonishing.

Not slightly unobservant astonishing.

More blind-as-a-bat astonishing.

Speak Soon,

Carol
