Trying not to panic

I’m building a world!

A world that’s far bigger than me, and I think it’s going to take a bit of time to figure out exactly how it’s all going to work.

As you know, I’ve spent the last few years trying to translate our big hopes, dreams, and messy feelings onto canvas.

Art is both a mirror and a door.

It reflects who we are…

our stories, our contradictions, our resilience…

but it also opens onto what we might yet become.

My new (and by new, I mean big and scary) project builds on the idea of what we might yet become.

It’s called The Rooted Age and its tagline, because apparently I enjoy making life difficult for myself, is…

“Where the end feels sacred and the roots remember your passwords.”

The world has its own mythology, colour palette, and even its own language! (Yes, I’ve created an actual language, and yes, I’m totally aware how bonkers that sounds.)

The project might turn out brilliantly…

or I might fall flat on my face!

Either way, I’d like to invite you to come along for the ride.

I will be updating you here, of course, but I’ll also be doing more regular updates on social media so come on over and join me on Facebook or Instagram to see what’s going on there.

And while you’re there, say hi! I love hearing from you.

It can get a bit lonely in the studio and, when I spot a like or wee message from you, it always brightens my day.

It’s a lovely reminder to step back from the easel and engage with the actual world rather than just the one I am creating! Oh, and if you know someone who might connect with my work, please send them my way.

Right, I shall now go and attempt to break this project down into bite-sized pieces so that it will make a bit more sense to you… and to me! lol.

(Please reply and tell me it’s not just me who takes on big challenges and then panics about it?)
